Continental Flight 3407
Posted on Feb 14, 2009 by Dahmer
A Continental commuter plane coming in for a landing crashed into a suburban Buffalo house, sparking a fiery explosion that killed all 49 people aboard and a person in the home. It was the nation’s first fatal crash of a commercial airliner in 2 1/2 years. Time will tell what happened to flight 3407 but the fact that this nation has gone 2 1/2 years without fatal crash is a testament to the professionalism of the men and women in all aspects of commercial aviation. The mechanics, load agents, air traffic controllers and the flight crews themselves work day in and day out in dangerous and unforgiving work environments where small mistakes can have devastating consequences. Aviation is still by far the safest way to travel in part due to the awareness of the risk and consequences of mistakes. It is our everyday lives that we tend to let our guard down and can end up getting injured of killed. This accident was tragic and we lost 49 lives but this country losses nearly 3 747 planes full of people in automobile accidents every WEEK. Those of us who work in high risk and dangerous work environments need to maintain the same level of awareness in our day to day lives that we do on the job.
Stay safe
