Pursue Perfection. Achieve Excellence.

The message focuses on setting individual and group expectations and monitoring performance. In essence, PURSUE PERFECTION - ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE! The road to PERFECTION begins with inward REFLECTION.

Jeff "Odie" Espenship and Wes "Dahmer" Sharp use actual cockpit video, audio, and numerous pictures to drive home the message of on-the-job cultural factors that most influence work behaviors.

IT WORKS! It changes behaviors! The proof is in the results!

"...Progress Energy Florida has reduced personal injuries by 48% and Vehicle Accidents by 42%....Your presentation set the stage for the culture shift that we are still going through. You can quote me on that!"

Corey Zeigler, Health & Safety Manager Energy Delivery, Progress Energy

Who are your fighter pilots?

Target Leadership draws similarities and comparisons to your corporate fighter pilots. They are the ones out there every day getting the job done.

Consequently, they have the most to lose if something goes wrong. The individual fighter pilots are the front line employees. They will work within the norms of the culture that the flight leaders or supervisors create.

We compare your supervisors to flight leaders and squadron commanders. They set the tone and the expectations for the work that is done.

Operational excellence, safety, and productivity will come as a byproduct of individual responsibility and leadership.

Target Leadership will customize the keynote to include various issues and initiatives your company wishes - such as:

  • How individual Attitudes and Behaviors influence others
  • Inattention to Detail
  • Pressure to Perform
  • Complacency– The Silent Killer
  • Silence is Consent - Speak up
  • Near Miss Reporting
  • Communication – Job Safety Briefing
  • Recognizing Leading Indicators and Speaking up
  • Human Performance Error Prevention Techniques

Why is this message so powerful?

Because it is personal! Odie and Dahmer use personal triumphs and tragedies to connect directly to each individual! They share in hope that others might learn from their successes and failures in leadership and work behaviors.

When it comes to human behaviors, we're all the same

"Through years of teaching and learning, I understand Leadership and Safety in the workplace. Leadership creates and maintains the culture of the workplace, and the workers work within the norms of that culture. Leadership must set expectations high and monitor performance. This creates the workplace culture. Safety will come as a byproduct of operational excellence, and operational excellence will come as a byproduct of superb, value based leadership."

The Target Leadership Keynote is the core message every company employee needs to hear! Delivered by Jeff "Odie" Espenship.

Wes "Dahmer" Sharp inspired us to think and strive to improve our behavior and actions.  Dahmer's personal story of surviving a mid-air collision with another F/A-18 was very powerful. The concept speed-rush-baseline hit home with a number of people and they continue to talk about it.  That is making a positive and lasting impact!  Thank you.

In aviation, when professional pilots recognize a degradation in operational excellence (poor check list usage, failure to brief properly, cutting corners, improper use of procedure(s) / equipment, etc) then fail to "speak up" and communicate due to any number of reasons (complacency, not my job, someone else will fix it, etc.) at the very least we lose efficiency, at worst we lose a life.

We talk about the importance of leadership "Setting Expectations", "Monitoring Performance" and "Inward Reflection" for continual sustained improvement. I blend each message together so that every employee in the room will come away with a crystal clear message of why we must PURSUE PERFECTION when overseeing and working with those who work in a high risk and often dangerous work environment.
